when Nina Simone climbed in the window
you said it was a simple present though
we both knew you'd gone to great lengths to get
us a visit from this star, better yet:
one now immortalised as a robot
more, considering the talent she's got
and the fact that she is living tissue
over a metal endoskeleton
sent back from the future to entertain
somehow though it seems a tad inhumane,
android or not, for this living legend
to be forever, throughout time, destined
to provide this sing-a-gram service
besides, meeting idols makes you nervous
so the three of us sat down together
chatted about this and that: the weather,
relaxing with the high priestess of soul
since it was mild later we all took a stroll
and sang together too: I have to say
there could be no better Valentine's Day
