107 - Breaking Spring
It
started
raining and this breeze came in. Not long after, as if part of the same
moment,
an earthquake began. It was mild at first but it built gradually. Still there
were no
great shunts. Rather the room swayed in slow motion while the rain
hammered away,
creating a curtain of rising water noise. The breath of the afternoon
exhaled
up off the street as the tarmac cooled. My head toppled. I went to sleep
with a
headache and woke up soon after covered in sweat. It was dusk by then
and the
rain had stopped. I could hardly see. Just blue luminescence hung with
raindrops out the window. Adhesive heat stood on the shivering air.
