I bought some sheets of paper today. The packet they came in had the following English inscription on it: "Today I dare to openly express my needs and find healthy ways to get them met. I like feeling good today. I like myself today".
It seems in the age of social media even inanimate objects want to express themselves. Things are extremely talkative. A food wrapper tells me to "dream another dream" while a coffee cup gently reminds me to "reach up to the stars". People are walking anouncements, "forget this crap" or "sweetheart romance dance" declare their t-shirts. A girl's hoodie sings, "wondering bird fly anywhere". These messages are often abstract, the poetry being more in what they suggestion than in any explicit meaning. It feels odd to be outwitted by a sticker that's been affixed to a lamp post. Passing grafitti I catch a glimpse of a proverb that I'll have to muse on for some time, perhaps without ever understanding it.
I could take in all these messages that vie for attention. I could not worry about what they want to tell me or why they need to tell it to me, I could do that.
