Summer of 2019. The unthinkable is trending.
In the wake of national crisis it has been decided that Christmas will not go ahead this year. There is the further possibility of a total suspension of festivities until 2021. The Prime Minister cited stock market collapse and general unrest as clear indicators that the country could not afford to go into the winter season preoccupied with preparations for Yule.
She went on to say "These are supremely significant times for the future of this country - it is the responsibility and privilege of this government to ensure that we as a nation progress past this fiscally challenging and ideologically difficult time. With this in mind it is prudent to temporarily suspend Christmas. This will benefit all businesses and consumers in the long run."
The announcement has been met with violence in the streets. Recent riots have shut down major cities. At the same time several major governmental departments and public services have become so preoccupied with civic unrest that many have called for the imposition of Martial Law.
Renewed demonstrations throughout major cities have added chants of "Christmas! Christmas!" to protests that have been going on since early spring.
Many have supported the move. however; @FlatGimps on Twitter wrote "It's got to be done. The hard truth is we ain't got time for presents and trees now. Let's get on with making this country great again".
Meanwhile Facebook user Ricky Dicks, who has gained a huge following in recent months, made a live statement viewed by over half a million people, in which he implored people to "look beyond this Christmas. And next Christmas. This is the future of the human race we're talking about".
In this most recent broadcast Mr Dicks echoed calls from the Opposition for national resources to be funnelled into other areas of society.
Millions of social media users have replaced their profile pictures with the slogan"Suspend Christmas. Save England".
